Hamilton city is the forth biggest in the country and is one of the fastest growing and most vibrant. The mighty Waikato river which is the longest in the country meanders through the city providing stunning vistas and picturesque views. The city boasts modern restaurants with diverse menus and cafes with chefs specializing in Mediterranean and local Kiwi fare. For the shopper amongst us there are boutiques selling New Zealand fashion and gifts. The Waikato region is famed for dairy farms and as a result there are some amazing and award winning cheese makers within easy driving of Hamilton CBD. The Zealong Tea Estate is the only New Zealand grown tea plantation, 20 mins outside of Hamilton and growing Oolong teas. Zealong offers a tea discovery experience and is a wonderful place to while away an afternoon. Hamilton has wonderful produce and farmers markets over the weekend and with a rich farming culture, the local produce is about as fresh as you will ever get. The city hosts a number of national and international events throughout the year with the highlight being Fieldays in June. Originally for the farming community, Fieldays attracts everyone with a full schedule of events including great food and drink exhibitions.
